MANY SPEECHES.

DEBATE ON ESTIMATES. DULL PROCEEDINGS. (By Telegraph— Special to the Star.) „ WELLINGTON, Sept, 13. i arliament adjourned during • the small hours of this morning, after eight and a half hours on the-Estimates, during which time no fewer than 86 speeches were delivered. The proceedings were the dullest of the session up to date. ' 1

Mr Young took the chair of the House m committee at 2.45 on Fridav afternoon, and the debate on the Education Department estimates lasted trom then, till two minutes after midnight, during which period 62 speeches were delivered. Labour members spoke 3- times, Liberals 17 times, and Reform five times, the Hon. Mr Parr replying eight times.

The Marine Department’s estimates followed on, and by 1.46 a.m. another speeches had been delivered— twelve by Labour, three by Liberal, hnd three by Reform, the Hon. Mr Anderson replying four times.

Mr Wilford and the Hon. Mr Parr were the only speakers on the Justice Department estimate. •

The remaining five departments were dealt with and went through without discussion, the House adjourning at 1.50 this morning.

The following were votes passed: Education £2,758,822, Crown Law Office £5283, Justice Department £46,065, Supreme and Magistrate’s Courts £96,680, Prisons £84,971, Marine £121.544, Pensions £97,354.
