Mr Thomas arrived from the north this afternoon and. has sailed for England. Interviewed, he said lie considered South Africa a good country for settlers with money, but there was no hope for the merely unemployed and manual labour. He said he intended to visit other Dominions, but declined to sav which he would next visit. He was expected to sfieak on the Irish question the same day as he arrived in England. His secretaries would meet him at Madeira and put him au fait with the most recent developments.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
