MURDERER OF GIRL. BY CABLE —PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT MELBOURNE, Aug. 4. Exhaustive efforts by the police to trace the murderer of the girl Tuckerman proved fruitless. The city is horrified at the murder ; of Irene Tuekerman, the girl whose body was found in a Caulfield street, apparently'strangled. The crime has many features in • common with the Gun Alley tragedy. The whole community is endeavouring to assist the police in the search for the . perpetrator. Further police investigations disclose that the murdered girl was seen during the morning m the neighbourhood of her home with a man. It is believed the child was enticed to some stable or house not far from her home, and there strangled in order to stop her pi’otesting cries. The chief of police is of opinion that the crime was committed by a sexual maniac, and it will not be long before he'is arrested. The whole district today was terrorised, children being driven to school in motor car or taken by terrified parents.
