Motor car thefts and robberies are becoming a daily occurrence, and the week-end list is consistently heavy. PLAGUE PRECAUTIONS. SYDNEY, Aug. 2. -As a plague precaution, the city rat catchers are conducting a series of intensive drives in the c-ity, in additon to uncc&sng trapping and poisoning. During the six months of the current year the number killed was comparatively low, showing that the pest is being kept well in hand.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. SUBSIDIES ON EXPORTS. MELBOURNE, Aug. 2. According to a statement tabled in the House of Representatives, subsidies amounting to £140,532 have been paid during 1924 in respect to frozen beef, canned beef, and live cattle exported. —Aus.-N.Z.
