RUGBY FOOTBALL.

TO-DAY’S MATCHES. INTERESTING POSITION. COMING REP. MATCHES. The results of the play of the leading teams in Group 11. to-day will be awaited with the keenest interest, for they practically will decide the question of leadership. Hawera are two points ahead of Stratford. They meet Star to-day, and if the result of their last meeting is any guide, the match should be keenly contested. Hawera are without the services of West and Brown, but are materially strengthened by the inclusion of Sinclair and S. Cameron. Stratford have to meet Inglewood, and the latter are bound to give their opponents a great run. In Group I. Tukapa are the leaders, and will"have to play off with the leaders in the other groiqi. This will take place next Saturday, probably at Eltham. A representative match is set down for Thursday next at Stratford, when Taranaki will meet Manawatu. The latter are strong this year, and after the good showing of their men against the All Blacks should give Taranaki a great struggle. On that day a curtainraiser will be played, North v. South Taranaki Primary School reps., and this will provide interesting football. Next Saturday a football tournament for teams representing the four districts of primary school football in Taranaki, kill be played at New Plymouth, when the public will have the opportunity of seeing the best of the school players. The semi-finals and final will be played at Pukekura Park, commencing at 1.30 p.m., the elementary rounds being played on the racecourse during the morning. On August 16 New Plymouth High School are set down to meet Te Aute at New Plymouth, and on the same day Wanganui are scheduled to play Tara-, naki at Hawera.
