HAWERA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

MONTHLY MEETING. A matter oi more than usual interest was before the members of tint committee last night, when air I. \Y. Harding (chairman) presided. The suggestion of the headmaster (Mr F. A. Bates) to make the daily hours thirty minutes earlier,- so that the schools would open at 9 a.m. and close earlier m the afternoon, was again before members. They had decided against recommending the- change, but the master had taken a plebiscite of parents, and found that- they were strongly in favour of the proposal. After some discussion, it was resolved to leave the- question to bo considered bv a special meeting to be held on Wednesday, August 13.

A letter of symnptliy was passed with Alls Peters in the death of her daughter, a- school pupil. It was -resolved to convey the motion of svmpathv bv letter to Airs Peters.

A large amount of detail work in connection with the beautifying of the grounds was done. Amongst this was the decision to piant ornamental trees.
