DOMINIONS’ CONFERENCE.
WILL NEW ZEALAND BE REPRESENTED? (By Telegraph.—Special to the Star.) "WELLINGTON, July 31. A subject of great interest to members is whether the Premer will interrupt his arrangements for the session to accept the Imperial Government's invitation to attend the Dominions Conference in London, next October. To do so- would mean the curtailment of the Government’s programme for the session, unless Sir Francis Bell was entrusted with New Zealand's representation, an unlikely, contingency. Many members of the House seem to be of the opinion that the results of the last Imperial Conference were not sufficiently important to justify another serious disturbance of the Dominion’s politic conditions, especially as they are not easy for the present Government, and they incline strongly to the view that when the Government’s reply to the invitation is known it will be found 1 to be in the negative. An attempt to ascertain the position was made to-day in the House by Mr. McKeen (Wellington South), who put an urgent question to the Hon. Downie Stewart, actingleader of the House, as to the Government’s intentions. . Mr. Downie Stewart answered that he had not seen the despatches on the subject, and in the absence of Mr. Massey was unable to reply. He asked Mr. McKeen to repeat his question on Friday, by which time .he would have consulted the head of the Government.
