OPERA HQUSE TO-NIGHT. “THE WHITE FLOWER. Betty Compson’s latest production, ‘ ‘The White Flower.” was given its initial screening last night before a large and delighted audience. Betty is a glowing creature of fire and romance—half Hawaiian, half American —in a story of loye and mystery actually filmed in Hawaii. You'll see Betty riding the. surf on ‘the famous beach at Waikiki, shocking even the natives with her wild hula hula, Edmund Lowe plays the leading masculine role opposite Miss Compson. Arh ne Pretty, Edward Martindel Sylvia Ashton, Arthur Hoyt, Leon Barry and Reginald Carter complete the cast. The programme will be lepoated to-night for the last time. SCOTTISH CONCERT AND LECTURE. ~ The Scottish concert and lecture in the I; oresters’ Hall to-morrow evening promises to be of very exceptional in" terest. both to those of Scottish descent and to the genera] public. The lecture w.ll deal with the work Scotland has done m making the British Empire. 1 he speaker is Mr Thomson, editor of the Scottish .New Zealander! who has had a long experience as a lecturer of this subject. He lectured recently in Palmerston, Masterton. and Weliino-. ton. and he will treat his subject from an historical viewpoint. Having a j so travelled extensively at Home, through Canada and America, Mr Thomson has had many opportunities of acquiring knowledge on this subject which has been so interesting to him. It should be of the utmost interest for our young people in the Dominion to learn* what our forefathers accomplished in building up the Empire.
