DEFEATING JUSTICE. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION. ') WELLINGTON, July 31. George Arthur Guiness, who was found guilty at tile Supreme Court of wilfully attempting to defeat the ends of justice in connection with the purchase of a, stolen diamond pendant valued at £65, was fined £2O. Counsel for accused said the prisoner had been guilty of a mistaken sense of his obligation to the womgn who had sold the pendant to him, and had not realised his obligation to the police. His character was excellent and lie bad been in business iu the city for 27 years. SERIOUS CHAR GF,S. ! TIM ART', July 31. I icdcrick Bowles appeared before the .Magistrate’s Court on six charges of indecently assaulting boys, and was remanded till to-morrow. Rail was allowed, accused £2OO. and two sureties ol £IOO each.
