KAPONGA JERSEY CLUB.

FIRST ANNUAL MEETING. There was a lair attendance of memueis at the first annual meeting ot the lvaponga. Jersey Cattle Club neld yesterday in the Oddfellows’ Half, ivaponga. -Sir D. P. E. Malone occupied tne chair. Apology for absence was presented by the chairman on behalt of the retiring president, Mr A. ±i. Guy. The first annual report stated, inter alia:—“Since the formation of the c.luh it has effected a great deal of useful work on behalf of the breeders in the district. lour executive drafted strict rules for club sales, thereby practically eliminating the culls from entry in the saLe ring. The field day under the auspices cf the club, with Mr H. E. B. Watson as judge and demonstrator, was a pronounced success, and as the result of Mr Watson’s able demonstration much, helpful information was gleaned. Thanks are clue to the breeders who attended, and who assisted by bringing their cattle forward to make the field day one of the Dest held. On the evening of the. field day the club held its first smoke concert, everyone spending a most enjoyable evening. During the year progress of the Taranaki clubs has been marked by the formation of the Taranaki Provincial Council. In conclusion, the. committee hopes that all members will do their utmost to; foster the club.” The balance-sheet disclosed a satisfactory financial condition. On the- motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr W. A. Guy, the report and balance-shetet- were adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mr D. P. F. Malone; vice-president, Mr -S. Hoi lard; secretary, Air AI. W. Priest (re-elect-ed; ; executive committee, Messrs R. J. Morris, W. A. Guy, J. Nicolson, G. Cowling, H. Aiellow. Other nominations were received, necessitating a ballot, with the foregoing result. Air H. IT. Henderson was appointed auditor.

The chairman intimated that it had been considered advisable to increase the subscription fee, as the expenses were proving heaver than was at first anticipated. To carry on successfully with the 10s fee, a very big increase would have to be shown in membership, but as membership was confined to local Jersey breeders, fjie necessary increase could not be anticipated.—lt was decided that the (Subscription fee be one guinea,. . A special donation of £5 5s was received from a member who desired to remain anonymous.

Mr R. S. Dagg made reference to the activities of contemporary clubs in arranging futurity stakes and other competitions, and recommended that something similar, open to club members only, be organised by the club.

Alessrs S. Holland, R. j. Alums and J. H. Bentley favoured the proposal, stating that such competitions stimulated interest in developing the bestpoints in cattle with beneficial results. The chairman and other members also spoke in support of the suggestion and a lengthy discussion regarding, the organisation of futurity stakes competition ensued. It was finally decided to request the executive committee to prepare rules for conducting a Kaponga futurity sweepstakes for female pedigree Jerseys, it being stipulated that present yearlings be eligible. Alessrs J. H. Bentley and D. Hurley were elected as members of the club.
