Education Board, writing in reply to the committee’s inquiry as to whether the committee or the hoard were liable, if either, in ease of accident at the school, stated that the board covered hv insurance accidents to caretakers and regular employees m accordance with the Employers’ Liability Act. In each case when damages were claimed it would be necessary for the claimant to prove neglie;enee on the part of the board. The board had ho policy covering accidents to children in the school building or playgrounds during school hours. This matter was one for the Education Department.
A letter sent by. the secretary of the copimittee to the board was read, setting out certain improvements which had already been effected by the comnnttee and others contemplated, na-me-ly: (!) a concrete path round the north side of the school from the front door to the back of the school- (9) concrete path from the back door to the turnstile (main entrance for children); (3) enlarging of girls’ shelter •shed fj-om loffc. by 9ft. to 39ft hv 9ft with a concrete floor; (4) erection of coal shed; (b) providing; seats round the nag pole and on concrete square It was estimated that the carr y ing out of the work would entail an expenditure of about £l3O, and as this outlay uas too heavy for the committee to bear alone, the board’s assistance in tno form of a- grant was askod. Mr. Moore, the board’s architect to whom a copy of the letter had been sent, wrote saying that the committee deserves great credit for the verv real interest taken in the school and surroundings, and he felt sure the committee would have the sympathy of all members of the board. After the board nad come to a decision he would be pleased to help in the matter The secretary to the board wrote stating that the request would be considered at the next meeting of the hoard, on Monday next. After some discussion it was left with Mr. McDonald to have the conerete work done, provided the outcome of the board s meeting on the 21st inst proves satisfactory.
