Experts advocated the cutting of a dyke, allowing the flood waters to escape seaward north and south of Tientsin, The Chinese authorities agreed to the cutting, which will flood many villages, but stated that it would be the only way to save Tientsin. Coolies were working all nught long strengthening the dvkes around the city.-—Reuter
