(From o'iir Own Correspondent.) Last Tuesday, Bth inst., the hall committee held a successful dance, at which all enjoyed themselves. The floor was the- best ; in fact some declared it was too slippery. Air. Win. Hughes officiated as AI.C., ami Airs. ,‘j. Bradley, at the piano, supplied a delightful programme. The local ladies, as usual, put on an excellent supper. Visitors from Hawera and Normanby showed the latest steps of jazz, and were evidently in high good humour with the floor elo.
Since Mr. Harrop, of Kihama, round his junk of £3OOO worth of ambergis, the beach between Mamvia and Opunake has been literally tramped by thousands. Various reports of valuable finds up to £2OOO by other searchers filter in. anti if (lie (loverm merit analysist’s analysis is favourable, as in Mr. Harrop’s case, then walking the beach must be more profitable than milking cows. The whole which was washed up on to the Oeo beach has now been washed away again. Some people are still wonderiny if it was full if ambergris, but your correspondent has heard from 'those who tried cutting it up that, it was full of emptiness.
