THE LEAGUE.

MUTUAL ASSISTANCE. PROPOSED TREATY. BY CABLE-PRESS ASSOCIATION— COPYRIGHT LONDON, July 2.. Mr MacDonald, questioned in the House of Commons regarding the draft treaty for mutual assistance circulated by the League of Nations, replied that the Government was not yet able to state its attitude, partly because it was still .consulting the Dominions. He ivas nowise convinced that the effect of such a. treaty would not- be to increase armaments. Mr MacDonald said he would like more information on this very important point. He was convinced that this method was not the only one, and doubted if it was the best method of approaching thq subject. .He hoped to make a statement before the summer adjournment.—Reuter. ■
