PEDIGREE JERSEYS.
SALE OF FEMALES. BY KAPONGA CLUB. Although, the breeding strains and butter-la t backing of the lots submitted on Saturday at the Kaponga Jersey Club s sale of pedgigree female Jeiseys showed a favourable comparison uith these presented at the contemporary sales, tne attendance was comparatively poor. As a Jesuit, bidding did not reach tlie level merited by tne quality of the animals offered. In several instances the owner’s bid was not exceeded, and the lots were passed, it was the final of the eleven sales of pedigree Jerseys held in the northern part of the province during the past fortnight, and as only a comparatively few of the outside buyers, whose bidding has been so prominent, were operating on Saturday, it is to be presumed that the majority of them had previously fulfilled their requirements. The unfavourable weather conditions prevailing probably kept away a large number of Taranaki provincial breeders who might have otherwise been present. Considering the detracting circumstances, however- the results realised, though not on a par with the value, offered, were not as discouraging as might have been the case. In all, 31 hejfers and 10 cows were disposed of at a total realisation of 10841 guineas, showing an average of 26£ guineas, the heifers averaging slightly more than the cows. The top price—4s guineas—was paid bv H. E. Watkins (Taranaki) for Mr' A. L. Hooper s (Mahoe) two-year-old heifer. Bridge View Bilberry (Whenuku Canadian Noble —Norfolk’s Park Bilberry), whose dam produced 6311bs fat at three years. The same owner’s Bridge View Dolly (Bridge View Victor-Bridge View Pearl), showing the famous K.C.B. strain, fell to the hid of Mr J. Mitchell (V oodyille), at 44 guineas. Only one other exceeded 40 guineas, hut several were sold at that figure. Mr Watkins, who was the most active buyer operating, showed a marked preference for Mr Hooper’s heifers, nine ot which lie purchased, six of the nine averaging 40 guineas each. The sale was conducted under cover at their Kaponga yards by Messrs Newton King, Ltd., the auteioneering duties being shared by Messr-s K. Kirk and C. Williams.
