HIGHWAYS FUNDS.
COUNTIES’ ALLOCATIONS. SPECIAL LEGISLATION BEING PREPARED. Questioned with regard to the allocation of main highways money to counties such as those in Taranaki, where most of the main roads , had already been permanently laid down, the Prime Minister said to a Star reporter this morning that it would not be wise for him to make any statement that would commit the Government. ‘ The matter would require special legislation, which was at present in the course of printing. r The matter of loans to county councils which had been sanctioned, but had been held up temporarily, was also mentioned by Mr Massey, who informed a Star reporter (that the money would: be forthcoming. He was not going back on promises.
