THE SOUDAN EXPEDITION.
THE BRITISH ADVANCE. (Per Press Association.—Copyright.) Caiko, August 27. A despatch with respect to the advance of the British expedition in the Soudan states that a gunboat has reached Abu Hamid and five other gunboats have passed most of the difficult points on the Nile. The river is rising steadily. It is expected that the gunboats will shortly be enabled to pass the fifth cataract. Steam pumping operations at New were sunk on the road across the desert from Wayda Haifa to Abu Hamed and a large supply of water was produced.
