The Spanish authorities in Cuba have sentenced the niece of President Cisneros, a beautiful young lady of 20, to penal servitude for life at Ceita, a Spanish town and fort in Morocco, Africa, on a charge of rebellion. The sentence has aroused intense indignation in America. The widow of -Jefferson Davies and many leading ladies are petitioning the Queen Regent of Spain with regard to the case. It is alleged that the young lady rejected the advances of General Weylears, and that the charge is the outcome of revenge.
