Feeding the Poor.
FOOD DISTRIBUED IN FIFTYSIX CENTRES OF LONDON. THE PRINCE AND PRINCESS OF WALES VISIT THE CRIPPLES. MANY TOUCHING SCENES WITNESSED. London, June 25. The poor were feasted in 56 cent; of London, chietfy in large pub.' halls. Many, however, were provided with dinners at their own homes. The classes whom it was desired to benefit largely were reached, and plenty of solid English fare was provided, including plenty of tarts and vegetables, whilst tobacco, tea, sugar, and in a few instances beer was given. The Princess of Wales sent messages of sympathy to each centre. She also visited, in company with the Prince, the People's Palace, where 1000 cripples were entertained, and at Central Hall, Holborn, where the recipients were mainly the outcasts of Clerkenwell and the respectable poor. The Prince and Princess mingled freely with the crowd, and tasted the food. Many touching scenes were witnessed, and in many cases women gave way to tears.
