A CONGRESS IN LONDON. (Per P re*s Asv,c)atin)i. — London, June 18. At the Technical Education Congress Sir William \\ indeyer and Messrs S. F. Heaton, Lyon, and Fryer read papers on technical education in New South Wales. Victoria, Queensland, and Tasmania respectively. Sir William eulogised the late Sir N. Russell's splendid gift of £50,000 to endow the Departmentof Engineering at the Sydney University. June 19. At the Technical Education Congress Sir William Windeyer urged that State schools should combine manual training with book lore. He was surprised that the farmers did not co-operate in dairying, and he expressed the opinion that they were suffering from a want of scientific training.
