TRAINING NOTES
A large number of horses and spectators were in attendance this morning. Chance galloped two rounds at a strong pace. Tally-ho put in strong work and is one of the fittest horses in training. Prince Charlie moved nicely over a couple of circuits. Purepo and Golden Plover cantered once round then jumped off over a strongly run mile. Uuis'opogaas and The Plug jumped away together over two rounds, the son of Puritan having the best of the finish. Bel ford pnt in a eoup'e of rounds, the last six furlongs at racing speed. Rioter and Goldnut worked two rounds at strong pace. Te was too many for Rhino in a strongly run couple of rounds. Caper. Rouge. lies, Brenmn, Much Ado, Velocity, Greenstone, Aphony, C'oeur de I.ii n. and a number of hunters put in solid work. M uliny was sent over the big country and took every fence like a deer. Ellingham's hunter and The Turk took the steeplechase country together, the grey having the best of the finish. Puketoi, \Yuiriti, and Tarawera jumped the hurdles in company. Puketoi was left in the rear. Tiritea, Donald McKinnon, and Toreki are all in strong work at Te Mahanga, and will be brought to Hastings on Monday to fulfil their engagements.
The Victorian hurdlers Leap Year and Furnace were both killed while schooling at Flemington a week ago, and the riders severely injured. In the face of this there are a few persons who claim that a safety hurdle is not required. Eighty-one horses are nominated for the Victorian Grand National Hurdle Race, and 46 for the Steeplechase. Kilt, by Loehiel. won the Flying Handicap at Sydney on March 531.
Two days earlier at Adelaide The Chevalier, by the same sire, won the Alderman Cup. Persimmon won the Ascot Gold Cup on "Wednesdav last.
