According to a return by the Regis-trar-General the following shows the progress of the North Island during the five years from 1891 to 1896 :—The population increased 59,176, the area under cultivation by 1,372,392 acres, horses by 27,865, cattle sheep by 1,971,800, sawraiSs by 86, dairy factories by 56. Tbqgßfcfcal value of all products increased by £264,502.
