THE TICHBORNE CASE.
AN APPLICATION FOR CRESSWELL'S RELEASE. ADJOURNED FOR FURTHER INFORMATION. 'P<r I'/vw Association.—f '<>j>!/ri;/lit *. Sydney, This day. Application was made to-day on behalf of Mr Edwc.rd Priestman, who is acting under power of attorney for the Rev. Edward Williams, Catholic priest, Devonshire, England, for an order directing Sir Roger Tichborne, at present confined in the Parramatta lunatic asylum under the name of Cresswell, to be given into the custody of the applicant for removal to England. A number of affidavits were read in support of Cresswell's identity as Tichborne. Mr Priestman was prepared to give security for the safe custody and maintenance of Cresswell. Mr Justice Manning said he would require evidence that Williams was a relative or friend acting entirely in the interests of Tichborne without ulterior motive. He declined at present to allow Cresswell to be examined, but would allow an examination of the asylum books. The application in the meantime was postponed. It was mentioned that C'resswill had cost the country over t'.SOO.
