The Court of Inquiry appointed to inquire into the Stockton colliery disaster find that the immediate cause was extraordinary recklessness and obstinate disobeyanee of orders. The Court states the general course of working the mines has been such as to tend to unnecessarily be the means of causing such accidents by leaving abandoned districts in a dangerous condition. In \i«w of this finding the Minister of Miin- ha- ordered another inquiry umkrthe presidency of -Judge Backhouse.
