The N.Z. University Senate.
[By Ti:o:(utAi'ii.j (Pec P/V.vs .Isxtiriatian.) Ai"ckt,an!>, This day. The New Zealand University session was resumed to-day, twelve members being present. On the recommendation of the Recess Committee the Senate resolved to confer the -Junior Scholarships of the year in the order of merit on the following : —M. C. Keane. L. 11. Greenwood, and W. L. Scott (Christchurch) ; Sarah Gordon and W. 11. Maclean (Wanganuij; G. G. Howes, J. Lang, W. 11. Thompson, Flora J. Hodges, A. H. Morgan, and J T. Matterson (Dunedin); F. L. Pogson, and A. M. Fell (Nel.-on) ; Editli L. Brown (Invercargill); Cora V. Wilkinson (Wellington). Keane, Pogson, ami Scott resigned their scholarships The. filling up of the vacancies was left to a select committee.
The Senate resolved that the remaining candidates in tin: junior scholarship, 2"». he recorded us having gained the amount and were qualified for matriculation, and 27 whose marks were scheduled be recorded a~ qualified for matriculation. That of '>•>! candidates for matriculation, JS77 be allowed to pass ; that of "> candidates for medical preliminary, fU be allowed to pas;s ; that of ;i!) solicitors in general knuw'edge. >ix Ik 1 allowed to pass.
With reference to tln> examination for 1i.L.0. in anatomy and phy>iology, the Chancellor -aid the examination in the medical course .should be -ulVicient for the science course. Practical examination-! were of most value. Perhaps, instead of appointing examiners in England, it would be a.s well for the .select committee to keep before them whether it wits not Utter to make a radical change. The whole .pi. -tt->n of appointing examiners wad referred to a v u-ct committee.
