The Mr Stead who is a passenger by the Nineveh is a son of Mr Stead of the Review of Reviews.
Walter White, cook on the steamer Tarawera, disappeared some days ago. His body was found lloating in the harbor.

In the course of an interview an expert declared that ticks were carried in bags of bone dust and that the action of New Zealand in prohibiting the importation of bone dust was a necessary precaution. New South Wales should follow the same example. News by the China steamer states that a French detachment on the Red River, Tonquin, fell into a Dacoot ambuscade. Adjutant and two tiralleurs were killed and twelve tiralleurs were seriously wounded. Melbourne, Feb. 14.
A railway employe named Holland and his son and another boy were drowned at Dandenong. The boys got into difficulties while bathing and Holland went to their rescue.

111' Seddon leave for Adelaide tomorrow and proposes to return on the 26th inst. ; and leave for Wellington, via Sydney, two days later.
