[By Telegraph.] {Per Press Association.) Wellington, Dec. 27. The cricket match Queensland v. New Zealand began at the Basin Reserve to-day. The weather was fine, but a strong nor'wester blew. Cowley stood out of the Queensland team, and Fisher, owing to his wife's illness, was absent from the New Zealanders, Frankish (Christchurch) taking hid place. New Zealand won the toss and decided to bat, there being but a feebly display up to lunch, when seven wickeis were down for 97, Baken (36) being the chief contributor. After lunch, however, a different complexion was put on the game, Li; k and Pearce knocking up 96 for he eighth wicket, the former making 6U and the latter 52. With the downfall of this pair, who treated the spectators to some lively hitting, the end soon came, the innings closing for 207. M'Glinchy took five wickets for 6;}, Lewis tM-o for 10, and Byrne two for 56. The Queenslanders were no better with the bat than the New Zealanders, and when six wickets were down for 86 Donahoo, who played excellent cricket, had 70 to his credit, the retiring six having contributed only 11. When time was called Queensland had lost nine wickets for 140, the chief scorers being Donahoo 70, M'Glinchy 25, and Wilson 15. This day.
