Aulin's shop in Mauriceville was burned down at midnight. The owner got out in a blanket. The place was insured, but the owner is a heavy loser. The School Committee intends to protest against the local school being made to compete with the City schools for the Education Board scholarships. Chkistchckch, This day. Showers of rain fell this morning and the weather looks threatening for the Anniversary Day's holiday, which will be closely observed to-morrow. Dtjn-edin, This day. The special correspondent of the Star says that four calls to the Legislative Council are intended, and that Mr Pinkerton, late senior member for Dunedin City, and Mr Louisson, of Christchurch, are of the number.
