NAPIER NOTES.

[From Oub Own Correspondent.]

Napier, September 21.

Wheel enthusiasts were fairly on the job on Saturday afternoon when the opening run oI the Wanderers Bicycle Club took place. About fifty bikes were in the procession, which included some half-dozen of the gentle sex, looking particularly trim and smart. Master Howard, a small youth of three summers, rode up on a minafcure machine in great style, and was received with plaudits. A spin to

Meanee was made, where refreshments were provided,* the team returning through Taradale, well pleased with their outing. Similar runs will be made every Saturday throughout 1 the season. - ' A slight shock of earthquake disturbed things for an instant or two after church last evening. The Napier Sailing Club on Saturday evening decided that in future sailing boats should be divided into two classes, and that no boat of less than 16 feet measurement on the waterline should be eligible to compete as a first-class yacht; Saturday night was particularly busy, and it is seldom that such a stream of people is seep, in the streets without something special bringing them out. Perhaps it was ttfe spring fashions in the windows that proved the magnet. Hastings folks seemed to add considerably to the throng. At the Police Court this morning Benjamin Hobbins got one month for vagrancy. Hohepa Parane for failing to forward sheep returns was fined £1 and costs. Clara Higgins and Bella White were fined £2 and costs each for keeping a brothel, and Samuel Flyger was mulcted in £4 and costs for allowing his premises to be used as a brothel.
