NAPIER NOTES.
[Fkom Our Own Correspondent.] Napier, September 17. As a result of the late concert and dance ill connection with the Napier Garrison the sum of £3O was raised. This together with donations already received and promised swells the drillshed improvement fund up to £IOO, entitling the committee to secure a subsidy of a like amount from the Government as promised to Mr Carnell, M.H.R. The money will be spent in lining the drillshed throughout, and making other necessary improvements. When the work is completed the building will be one of the most complete of the kind in the colony. The Wanderers' Bicycle Club have been asked to nominate a local rider to represent New Zealand at the Australasian championship meeting. The names of Messrs G. Petersen (the 25 miles champion), F. Fraser, and J. Caughley have been mentioned, but it is doubtful if either will be able to get away. The Napier Rowing Club will open the boating season on Saturday, 3rd October. A social will be held' in the evening, and trophies presented to the winning oarsmen of last year. A great crowd of people went on board H.M.S.
