GENERAL ITEMS. Sydney, August 22. Dean's appeal against bis conviction for having made a false declaration has been dismissed. News from Fiji states that Professor Solla's expedition to inquire into the origin of coral will probably result in failure, as the recent bore after going 40 feet brought up sand without any further trace of coral, a fact which is likely to upset some existing theories. August 24. Messrs Burno and Phillips begin their new Island service to-morrow with the steamer Ameer. Brisbane, August 24. The Minister of Agriculture laid the foundation of a new Agricultural College, to accomodate fifty-six pupils.
