THE REBELS HOLDING A STRONG TOSITION. Cape Town, July 27. The rebel position in Matoppo hills has not been shaken, and the holders resisted several attacks. The position of the whites at Gwelo is reported to be critical, and famine is the rule. July 28. The Matabele rebels are very confident since their last attempt to dislodge them and taunt the soldiers witb being cowards. Many people are leaving the Buluwayo district, believing the war will be a prolonged affair. In a sharp engagement with the Matabele at Belingwe, Captain Burrell succeeded, after a hard struggle, in forming a junction with the force from Fort Salisbury.
