“Home Jewel” Machine.

PUBLIC TRIAL. The notification that a public trial of the “ Home Jewel ” washing machine would take place yesterday afternoon at the rear of the Masonic Hotel, brought together a large number of ladies and gentlemen. The Auckland papers have been very profuse in noticing the invention, and the machine, by the trial yesterday, certainly faithfully carries out the advantages claimed -for it by the inventor, Mr Dobie, of Dunedin. It is the most complete and effective washing machine we have ever seen, and is sure to command a ready sale. It will prove invaluable to hotels, boarding houses, and all places where there is a large amount of washing done, and even in small families it should claim notice* Mr Levy, ofc Auckland, at present in Gisborne, is the agent for the invention, and superintended the trial. A large number of articles were washed clean in a few minutes, and the simplicity of the contrivance caused much comment by the onlookers. The machine is a very ingenious one, and is capable of turning out 120 dozen clothes in four hours. After washing, the articles are put through an ordinary wringer, and are ready for drying. The machine is worked at one end by a lever, and can be used with perfect ease by a woman. Without going into a minute description of the invention, we might add that the articles selected for the trial yesterday were extra dirty, having been so chosen as to show that the machine can do its work thoroughly. “ Home Jewel ’’ i B a very apropo name to bestow upon the invention, although a good many consider it should be termed “Every Man his own Washerwoman.”
