Tho Miirine Department wrote nc knowledging receipt of letter of 11 th, in reference to survey of harbor. The Department could not accede to the request of the Board, but the master of the Stella would be instructed to examine the locality, and if any obstruction vice found, to pilot its position. The Chairman: That leaves the matter just where it is. It was remarked that the Stella was then engaged in the work. THE BLOCKYaBD. W. IT. Tucker made a claim for compensation respecting land taken for the blockyard. Jt was explained that the claim was for land beiug taken under tho PublicWorks Act. The letter was referred to the Board’s Solicitor. BE< VRTIT FOR LOANS.

Major Verier thought the Commissioners should have made some recommendation.
3 he (. hairman said they had the application before them. Mr Townley said that certain leasehold securities were better than freehold—they would have to be careful or thev might have their itiotiey lying on their hands.
Messrs Dickson and Gannon agreed that if they got an offer for good leasehold security they should not re--1 life to consider it.
After further discussion it was decided on the motion of Mr Sunderland to refer the whole matter to the Finance Committee. CLAIM FOll COMPENSATION. Mr Kennedy wrote, stating that he hnd been put to a loss of £25 through the Blair Drummond having been moored so far out, it bring almost impossible to work her except at intervals of good weather.

The Harbor-master said he had placed the vessel as near shore as he thought it was safe for so la'ge a vessel.
Mr Matthewson wondered hon a large vessel would come up to tin breakwater if it was not safe for them to come n< arer than where the Blair Drummond lay. The Chairman said it did not seem
that the Board was in fault in any way in the matter, and it was decided to inform Mr Kennedy that while the Board regretted that any loss was sustained by the contractor, they could not admit of any liability. THE LOST CASTINGS. Messrs Common, Nhelton and Co., wrote en. losing nit order on the ship owners lor the value of the castings that were lost from the Blair Drummond, if the insurance company failed to replace them. An offer from Messrs Brown and Nmaill accompanied the letter, they agreeing to replace the pieces for £2O. Mr Matthewson objected to this course being agreed to, but it was decided to leave tbe matter as it stood. INGTNSEIi’s fi EPOST.
