TURF SCOUNDRELLISM.

A NOBLE PEER DISGRACES THE TURF.

TWO BLACKLEGS HOUNDED OFF. London, October 4, The Metropolitan Jockey Club have had their attention engaged lately in the consideration of a charge of shady racecourse proceedings, which was pre. ferred against the Marquis of Ailsbury and his trainer, John Tyler.

The present trouble arose out of the running of the Marquis’ horse Everett in the Harewood Plate, at Cork, a couple of weeks ago. The horse had been heavily backed for the Plate, but failed altogether to oome up to the expectations of the public, and it was indignantly said that the thing was a glaring swindle. The Marquis and his employee, Tyler, were required to give an explanation to the Club, but as they could not satisfactorily account for the wav the horse was run, they were both warned off the turf for life. Tt is expected the jockey will also be severely dealt with.

The Committee of the Club expressed themselves satisfied that this was not the only time the owner had been guilty of unfair running, and some of the members spoke very strongly of his conduct. The Press has taken the matter up in a warm spirit. The Times insists that the Marquis should be excluded from his seat in the House of Lords, which, the journal mildly adds, should not be brought into disrepute in this way. The Pall Mall Gazette and other radical papers are also very much incensed by the scandalous affair, and are not particular as to the terms in which they denounce it.
