Defences of the Empire.
London, Aug. 31. Lord Carnarvon, in a letter to the Times deplores the apathy and false economy of the Imperial Government in not fortifying commercial coaling stations. He contrasts their indifference with the patriotic exertions of Victoria and New South Wales.
