THE PREMIER’S LETTER.
Mb Ballance in a recent interview with a Wellington correspondent, made the following remarks re the Premier’s letter to the AgentGeneral : —“ We cannot imagine that the Agent-General would have revealed the contents of a confidential communication. He may have mentioned it under the circumstance above stated, and someone who heard it has telegraphed to the colony for for the purpose of injuring the Government.” Here the matter ends for the present. Mr Ballance further stated that the context of the letter had been “ tortured ” into the absolute statement that the Government would be defeated.
