Auckland, last night. Sometime ago a curious accident hapfienHd to a young man named James Howard ih Queen Street. Howard was walking down the street when he came accidentally in contact with a dead fowl which was lying on •
bench in front of Mr|Hulme’s butchery. The fowl fell on the ground, and Hume thinking the young fellow was trying to annex it rushed out in an excited manner, and before Howard had time to make an explanation hd was thrown on the ground. He sustained concussion of the brain. He was taken to the hospital. Ultimately the young fellow lost his senses, and had to be committed to the lunatic asylum, where he at present remains. It ie understood that Hulme has noteven visited or enquired after the young man since he so unceremoniously brought his head into contact with the pavement. Coat* pensation has been demanded by the parents, and if not paid the matter will in all pro* bability be brought on in the law Courts,
