Speaking recently on local Harbour Board matters, the Mayor of Greymouth designated the Grey Harbour Board as being one of the most corrupt bodies in the colony. He advocated that all local bodies rhouid be elected by the ratepayers. A contemporary states that a prize of a bottle of brandy was given at an Otago ploughing match last week for the plougman with the longest foot. The trophy was won by J. Chalmers, who measured nineteen inches from stem to stern. This did not include toe-ns’ls.
