Napier Harbour Board.
Napier, last night. At the Harbour Board's meeting to day it was reported that on the bar on the Spit river there was only ten feet of water. This is the shallowest depth for years, and is the result of the recent southerly weather. The channel between the piers is very narrow and crooked. The Board decided to call for tenders for a second big crane for the Harbour works. There are likely to be only two tenders, Messrs Anderson and Kincaird, and McQueen. Tenders will also be called tor the building of hopper barges to lay the rubble foundation tor breakwater in deep water. As there is no shelter the barges are to be under thirty tons, so that the big crane may lift them out of the water in strong weather.
The Engineer, Mr Goodall, has reported that during ths month next to nothing has been done towards advancing the breakwater, only four concrete blocks being put down owing to the bad weather.
