THE NAVY.

MORE MUDDLING IN THE NAVY. DEFECTIVE GUNS AGAINLondon, August 10. An enquiry is now being held be an Admiralty Commission into the causes of the two explosions of Nordenfeidt guns during the recent naval review. Although the enquiry is being held with closed doors, it has leaked out that a large proportion of the Nordenfeidt guns were dangerously defective and that several previous explosions cf a less fatal character had been hushed up. The London press are passing very severe strictures on the conduct of some of the leading officials in the Ordnance Department Of the Navy, and the matter is to be brought before Parliament at an early date.
