Auckland, last night, The disturbances and threatened cannibal, ism among the hauhau natives in the Hokianga district culminated on Friday morning, when the whole camp were arrested, ' The capture was effected under the dirre tion of Mr Bishop, R.M., who sent Inepeotot McGovern with ten ordinary constables and eleven special constables to arrest tbs Hauhau camp before daylight. As day broke the police came up, and th# Hauhau leaders called upon their followers to attack the police with axes and clubs, A severe struggle took place during which some of the constables received nasty Wounds! The Hauhaus were repeatedly called upon to lay down their arms under pain of their be> ing fired at by the police. Eruerua urged the Hauhaus not to surrender, but to attack with renewed vigor. The police fired several shots at Eruerud who is severely wounded. The Hkuhaul were then captured and handcuffed. Th# prisoners number fourteen men and nine women. A few helpless females and children were left alone. The prisoners were speedily conveyed to Waihau bridge where the steamer I lake awaited the party to ba con veyed to Rawene. On the European side Constable Hughes was wounded on the head and Constable Moore on the shoulders. All were covered with mud in which they fought, Onjthe Maori aide Eruerua Kapana is suffer, ing from bullet wounds, and four others are wounded, including Makara, wqo received an axe wound on the back of the neck from Constable Hogg, who wrested the weapon from his assailant. The prisoners are to bo tried before Mr Bishop in the morning, and will be sent to Auckland at once if they er# committed for trial.
