The wish may have something to do with the prevalent belief. ft is said that Ballance will have a tough time in Wanganui as Carson has turned out stronger than was expected A forecast made by a person in the confidence of the Government is that they will get only about six Beats m the North Island but that they will have a large preponderance in the South Island. A Minister to-day mentioned that there was not the least likelihood that Parliament would meet before October, and when one takes into consideration the 30 days to be allowed to the registration officers to prepare the rolls, together with the large amount of other preliminary work to be done, the opinion appears to be well founded. It is said that one of the supriaea of the campaign will be the defeat of Hursthouse by “ Jacu ” Kerr.
