Bryce v. Rusden Libel Suit.

GENEROUS CONDUCT OF MR BRYCE. London, Tune 18. The new trial in the action Bryce versus Rusden has resulted in a compromise, Mr Bryoe waiving his claim to £l3OO of the total damages, (£5000) awarded him in March, 1886. The bench expressed approval .of the settlement, and warmly praised the handsome conduct of Mr Bryce. At the suggestion of the Court, Mr Rusden unreservedly withdrew every imputation reflecting on Mr Bryce. BRYCE V. RUSDEN. With respect to the above satisfactory news, Puff says: 11 Bryce heaping coals of Are on IBusden's head I Letting him off £l3OO of damages I I suppose the poor old duffer has’nt got the tin 1 Oh, I don,t know ! He’s fairly well in, I fancy 1 At least he was when he went Home 1 Still the costs of the action must have totted up to some thousands, besides the £3700 of damages 1 Yes, and then there’s the expense of publishing * The History of New Zealand ’ in 4 volumes, without getting any sale for it I Altogether Busden will be pretty well skinned ! I’ll tell you what, I should like to see the chaps that told him all those crams made tolput their hand to their pockets and make up his losses I Ah, that would make ’em squirm ! Who are they, do you know ? Oh yes, I know ! There’s Sir—hum —er—you know who I No doubt! Who next ? Why, then there’s Sir—hum—er—eh ? Yes, I thought as much 1 Well, he can afford to fork out anyway 1 Then there’s Whatshisname—come here and I'll tell you 1 Hoho 1. That’s the man, is it? I always suspected as much ! Well, he’s made enough by travelling allowances alone in the last three years, to stand his whack ! Then there's Oh, but those three are enough I If they were made to plank a couple of thousand apiece, it would pull poor old Rusden through ! I wonder Bryce did’nt go for them as well! No, dear boy, he had too much self-respect ! Besides, if he had, it would have been attributed to political animus ! Yes, that’s true ! John Bryce has behaved like a brick all through 1
