CIVIL DEFENCE ORGANISATION FOR AUSTRALIA
(Rec. 10.40). CANBERRA, Nov. 21. The Federal Minister of Defence, Hon. W. Dedman, announced that Cabinet has approved of the establishment of a Civil Defence Planning Organisation in Australia. The main feature of the Organisation would be that of an interior department, which would be responsible for civil defence, but which, with the Defence Department, will also be responsible for advice on military aspects. There would, he said, be the Civil Defence Committee, consisting of Senior Departmental representatives to advice on civil defence policy, and to co-ordinate plans. A full-time Director of Civil Defence, responsible for the initial planning, would be appointed. _______
