HOKITIKA, November 23

Playing at Kumara during the week-end, St. Mary’s were beaten by the home team. Kumara batted first and knocked up 145, due mainly io the sound partnership of Bell and Hemera, who, between them, took the Score from 1 for 1 to 2 for 41. C. Dalkie made 57 not out. The best bats were Bell 45; Webster 11. Bowling for St. Mary’s, Wallace took 4 for 24, Toohey 2 for 51, Gilbert 0 for 22, Lee 1 for 22, Ogilvie 1 for 18. Wilson and Ogilvie opened for St. Mary’s and knocked up 135. Lee and Tohey carried the score to 257. Ogilvie made 87, Wilson 70, Toohey 52 and Lee 37. Kumara played out time in their second innings.

Ruatapu secured a five point win over Woodstock, with a margin of 25 runs in their first innings. With four wickets down for 12, E. Wells and J. Keenan formed a sound partnership, and with Clancy and E. Stoop, the total ment to 135. For Ruatapu, Peake took four for 30, Wilson 2 for 5, Hoffmann 2 for 29, H Wilson 2 for 67. Ruatapu replied with 170, Peake making 101. The only other batsmen to reach double figures were Hoffmann 13, and H. Wilson 11. In the junior matches Woodstock beat St. Mary’s by 83 runs. Woodstock compiled 81 runs. Gardyne 19, Wilson IS and Tinnetti 15. St. Mary s replied with 73, G. Stopforth 21, P. Hausmann 18« R. Fhilpo 15 not out. Connors took 7 for 21. Woodstock scored 127 i.n their second innings, Tinnetti 32, Connors 29 not out. St. Mary’s required 136 runs to' win, but were all out for 52, Stopforth 15 and Henderson 14. Wildbore took 2 for 1; Woolhouse 2 for 3. J. Keenan o for 21 and Connors 1 for 15. Weather conditions at the week-ena throughout Westland were excellent and many people visited the - a kes. In the past two weeks whitebail fishermen have secured small Quantities and most of the fisher ioffi have now given the game up lor tne season.
