Girl Guides’ Annual Shield Day

The annual competitions for the Isles Shield, in knotting, first-aid. signalling, message carrying, and Guide laws, were held by Girl Guides at Victoria Park on Saturday. Camerons, with 107 points, won the Shield. Companies from Ist Greymouth (holders), Camerons, Cobden, Blaketown, St. Mary’s, Reefton and Ist Westland Lone Guides, took part in the events. Hokitika’s two companies were unable to be present, and poor weather in the morning caused a cancellation of the fire-lighting competition. Mrs Schaef, Provincial Commissioner, took the salute at the march past. Mrs Boustridge, Provincial President, accompanied her on the inspection of companies. Camerons won the Shield, with Cobden runners-up. Foints were: Camerons 107, Cobden 102, Ist Grey 91, Lones 84, Blaketown 77, Reefton 74, St. Mary’s 61.
