Sawmiller Killed

INVERCARGILL, Nov. 14 When a tree he was assisting to fell at Tokanui sawmill on Wednesday dropped back on top of him, John Stephens, aged 49, a sawmiller, of Tokanui, suffered injuries which later proved fatal. Mr Stephens was assisting to fell a medium-sized tree which, in falling, caught the branches of another tree, balanced, and then swung backwards. The bushmen saw what was happening and ran clear, but Mr Stephens was unable to get clear in time and the tree struck him.
