BIG FOUR ASKED TO RENEW NEGOTIATIONS FOR SETTLEMENT AT BERLIN
Australian President of U.N. Assembly Takes the Initiative (Rec. 10.30) PARIS, November 13. Dr. Evatt (President of the U.N.O. Assembly) and M. Lie (U.N.O. Secretary), have issued a joint appeal to M. Stalin, Mr Attlee, President Truman and Dr. Dueuille to settle the Berlin East-west dispute.
Little Six” nations and the western Powers are reported to b.? prmly resisting the efforts to have tn e Berlin blockade dealt with by the General Assembly,- instead of the Security Council. Dr. Bramuglia (Argentina) is reported to have told Dr. Evatt and Mr Lie that the Big Powers did not want outside attempts to settle the prolem. Dr Evatt, who is at present President of the Assembly, is expected to remind the Big Powers that the resolution calls for a quick settlement of the peace treaties with Germany and Japan. Dr. Evatt has given his full support to the attempts by the U.N.O. Secretary-General, Mr Trygve Lie, to eliminate the differences which have prevented a settlement of the Berlin question.
