GREYMOUTH PEOPLE FORGET REMEMBRANCE DAY
Vandals Damage Wreaths The significance of Remembrance Day means nothing to the people of Greymouth, and even less to certain hooligans who infest the town. It is a sad commentary on the people of the town that only’ four persons attended the service and laying of wreaths at the Cenotaph yesterday morning—the Mayor and' Town Clerk (Messrs F. F. Boustridge and F. A. Denton), and the President and a member of the R.S.A. (Messrs 0. McLean and A. Agnew). Due notice was given of the service, which followed that held the previous Sunday in the churches, ana it came as a shock to those men who, representing the people of the town and the ex-servicemen, to find that the secrifice of their own kitlq and kin had been forgotten. To make masters worse, some person or persons with a perverted sense of humour, extensively damaged the weaths laid at the service. The damage was discovered at 3 p.m. yesterday, and no trace of the vandals lias been discovered. The two wreaths had been jammed into each other, and flung into a hedge near the Cenotaph
